On the opposite side of the cost spectrum, there is the Omni Corporation Whole House Water Filtration System U25.
While a lot less expensive than the Pelican, this filter system had very good reviews for removing chemicals and bad flavor from the water. It was recommended as easy to install.
An in-between option is the AP102T Cuno Whole House Water Filtration System.
It features a ten year limited warranty and conforms to all public health regulations for water safety. The AP102T will service a house with 3-4 bathrooms.
