What is the difference between 30 and 25 grams?

My water was tested and it is 28 grams. My water softener is a on demand model.

You set the grams to your hardness. I can only set the softener at 25 or 30? Is 25 ok to use?

Dave, I believe you are referring to GRAINS as in grains per gallon of hardness. Here is a good example to go by.
Example: If your water softener has 30,000 grains of total capacity this is the formula.
1. At 25gpg of hardness you can run approximately 1200 gallons of water through system before it has to regenerate.
2. At 30gpg of hardness you can run approximately 1000 gallons of water through system before it has to regenerate.
Typically 25% of the total capacity is left in reserve.
In your instance at 28gpg the system would need to be set at 30gpg to prevent hard water constantly coming through system.
this is s very general explanation.
I hope it helps,
RJ
