Water Sediment Filters
Only A Part Of Your Home Water Filtration

A good filtration system, such as water sediment filters, is your perfect defense against impurities in your drinking water.

Otherwise, if you do not have one, there is a huge possibility that you will be getting different forms of illnesses, some of them grave ones, including cancer.

What is a water sediment filter? What types of contaminants can it remove?

What are the limits of these types of filters? These and more shall be the subject of this entire article.

Where Sediment Water Filters Work

Basically, a filter for water sediments can remove visible and large inorganic particles. These include silt, loose scale, sand, and even clay, which may have found their way into the public water supply.

This is also very common in households that are located near huge mining and construction sites, as well as oceans and seas. You can also make use of this type of filter to remove certain types of manganese as well and iron.

Normally, sediment filters are paired with another kind of water treatment. This is because the kind of filtration it gives is only basic.

Commonly, if you have a sediment filtration system in place, you should also be using ozonation, aeration, or chlorination, another simple contaminant-removal method.

These kinds of treatment will allow certain minerals like hydrogen sulfide and iron to become solid, which, in turn, will make them much easier to trap in water sediment filters.

You can also employ the use of carbon-based or RO filters together with sediment filter.

When Your Water Sediment Filter Would Not Work

Do not ever believe that your filter, no matter what type it is, will be able to trap all kinds of contaminants and impurities that are present in the water.

The most important thing is you can get rid of the very visible ones and, as much as possible, remove the level to the least amount the harmful chemicals, which may include lead, fluoride, and volatile organic chemicals, or VOCs.

When it comes to the sediment water filters, keep in mind two important things:

1. First of all, these sediment filters cannot remove any material that is already in their liquid form, whether they are in organic or not. This is because the pores of the surface of a typical water sediment filter are quite large.

Thus, do not expect that heavy metals, pesticides, and even nitrate can be filtered by this variety of filtration system.

2. The sediment filter will also never work if your main goal is to remove the microbes that are found in your drinking water. They are too small to be trapped by this filter.

This also means that it will not also trap minute versions of sand and clay. Your next best option is to go for microfiltration.

Sediment Filters for the Entire House

You may also opt to set up a sediment filtration system not just to your faucets but to your entire home as well. Usually, these will involve not just one strainer but a number of them to effective remove the particles in your drinking water.

They are also attached not on the faucets but on the main water lines to ensure that any liquid that passes through your pipe is filtered even before its reaches the faucets in your kitchen sink or in your bathroom.

Sediment filters are also very convenient to maintain. All you need to do is to change them once in a while. But because you will be installing the filter all over your home, you may have to ask the help of the plumber.
