PUR Water Purifier A Review Of Top Three PUR Water Filters
A PUR water purifier is so effective that the US's and NATO's armed forces have established PUR's desalinating systems as part of the stock provisions on their bases and ships.
PUR began to produce these desalinators in 1986, boasting of being the first to create handheld purifiers that efficiently made seawater potable.
Originally focused on marine treatments, PUR turned their efforts towards outdoor water purification in 1990, manufacturing water purifiers for camping purposes.
Then, in 1993, following a plague of intestinal parasites found in the water, called cryptosporidia, in Milwaukee, PUR expanded their water purifiers to create products for household use.
Of the leading makers of water purifiers, PUR stands out as the only model that guards against cryptosporidium infection. It is also the first company to produce flavored water cartridges, with packages in raspberry, strawberry and peach.
Today, PUR's most popular water purifiers are for the home, with a variety of faucet mounts, countertop and undersink filter systems, pitchers and water dispensers.
From the very beginning, too, PUR has outfitted these purifiers with their trademark Automatic Safety Monitor Gauge, which shuts off filtered water when you replace the filter, and the Self-Monitoring Water Filters which cleverly alerts you when you must install a new filter.
Best PUR Water Purifiers
PUR Ultimate Faucet Mount Water Filter
PUR calls their Ultimate Faucet Mount their best filter.
This Pur water purifier is undoubtedly their hardest working one, with its one carbon filter able to remove even microbiological organisms, as well as eliminating dangerous substances that may exist in our tap water in small amounts and are difficult to filter, such as trihalomethanes, a carcinogenic compound of halogen and methane used as a refrigerant or a solvent, herbicides, insecticides, asbestos, lead, mercury and other toxins.
The system readily attaches to any average faucet, without needing to use tools. The filter is also quite simple to replace, although it will take you around three months before you'll need to, giving you 100 gallons of purified water.
The PUR water purifiers / filters may be more expensive than the filters of other brands but this is because of its nifty self monitoring capability.
Twisting the filter changes the settings of the faucet and you can automatically revert to unfiltered water for dishwashing purposes.
Many customers like the chrome-plated appearance, which fits in well with your standard sink fixtures. Some have complained, though, that it makes water flow slower than similar products from different brands.
PUR Ultimate Water Dispenser
Customers prefer the PUR Ultimate Water Dispenser, which can hold 4 liters of water. It's small enough to fit in your sink when you refill it and in your refrigerator for cool water.
The first in its two-stage system removes lead, copper and other harmful minerals from the water, as well as diffusing the foul smell and taste produced by chlorine and other chemicals. The second stage employs a pleated microfilter that blocks microbiological cysts and cryptosporidia.
Its basic functionalities are the same as the faucet mount except it is more mobile. One drawback is that individuals who are not accustomed to lifting heavy objects will transporting it to refill water to be difficult. Some have suggested filling only the tray at the top when it empties, which also makes sense.
PUR Ultimate Pitcher Water Filter
The PUR Ultimate Pitcher is then more mobile and easier to carry around than the water dispenser, however customers would still prefer to buy the dispenser. The pitcher can only carry 8 cups of water, and refilling will be more frequent.
Like the dispenser, it has a two-stage filtering system, using activated carbon to eliminate sediment and toxins and an ion exchange resin to decrease the amount of copper and lead in the first stage.
In the second stage, the microfilter guards against cryptosporidia and other parasites, currently the only water pitcher to do so. However, customers find the first filtering system difficult to detach. Still, others find this a minor flaw in an otherwise perfect water purifier.
All three PUR water purifiers guarantee the best tasting water you'll ever have, and big savings not only compared to bottled water, but also compared to other brands.
