PUR Water Filters From Water Pitchers To Faucet Mounted Filters
Pur water filters consistently perform well, providing clean, safe, good-tasting water to consumers all around the world.
The Pur water filtration systems are readily available, so finding replacement cartridges is easy, locally or online.
Company History
Pur began in 1986, producing manually-operated desalinators to convert seawater into potable drinking water.
These products are still in common usage with the military and in life raft kits. In 1990, Pur introduced a portable water filter for campers and backpackers… no more worrying about microbial infections on the trail.
In 1994, spurred by the outbreak of cryptosporidium in Wisconsin, Pur launched a series of water filtration products for home use.
Products At A Glance And Common Features
Pur makes several different products for filtering water. Probably their best known products are the Pur water pitcher and the Pur water dispenser.
They are similar, with the dispenser being the larger of the two. The container top is filled with tap water, which is filtered through the disposable water filter, then drained into the body of the container. Both are then stored in the refrigerator for cold drinking water.
Pur also makes faucet water filters. These handy water filters attach right to your faucet and filter the water as it comes out of the tap. The cartridges last longer than the filters in the pitcher and dispenser.
Pur also manufactures refrigerator water filters for Kenmore, Kitchenaid and Whirlpool refrigerators.
Finally, Pur has a side faucet that will fit right into some models of faucets made by Delta. This gives you filtered water conveniently at your sink from its own special faucet. The side faucet comes in many finishes to match the Delta faucet you have installed.
Of course, Pur also manufactures the filter cartridges for all the above products.
All the Pur household water filters feature a disposable filter cartridge. The cartridge is self-monitoring, letting you know when it needs to be changed.
All Pur water filters will treat for chlorine, cadmium, lead, mercury, sediment and benzene. Some filters will also remove trihalomethanes (THMs), copper, zinc, cloudiness, agricultural pollutants and industrial pollutants. Most will screen for cryptosporidium and giardia.
A downside could be the task of refilling the pitcher or dispenser can get repetitive, especially if your family drinks a lot of water. Waiting for the water to filter then takes several minutes.
The faucet mounted filters can be a little bulky when working around the sink. A few consumers have had difficulty attaching the faucet mounted filter, but most have no problems.
Filter replacement can add considerably to the cost of filtering your water, as the filters can be rather expensive when compared to the original cost of the entire system.
Did you know that lead leaches into the water supply from existing plumbing pipes? Ingesting too much lead can lead to hearing and behavioral problems, stunted growth and learning disabilities.
Using a Pur water filter will remove dangerous lead from your drinking water, keeping you and your family safe from these devastating consequences.
Pur water filters also allow fluoride to stay in the water. Dentists recommend fluoridated water to prevent tooth decay, so while Pur removes many additives from the water, it does not remove fluoride. |
Recommended PUR Water Filters
The Pur 3 Stage Vertical Faucet Mount requires no tools for installation on your faucet.
Consumers have rated this water filter as easy to use and install.
The water definitely improves in taste and you will save a lot of money over buying bottled water.
A few consumers did have problems with a crack developing in the filter housing, but others say that their 3 Stage Vertical Faucet Mount water filter lasted for several years.
Another option would be the Pur Water Purifying Pitcher. This is the only pitcher on the market that removes microbiological cysts.
It also removes lead, copper, asbestos, zinc, sediment and chlorine. It also makes the water taste and smell better.
This pitcher holds two gallons, and is designed to fit neatly in the refrigerator without taking up a lot of room.
