Comparison between Eco Smarte, Puronics and Pelican

by Robert Heaston

I am comparing 3 water softener systems: Eco Smarte, Puronics, and Pelican.

What can you tell me about each and how to compare them. Whole house water softeners and whole house water filters.

3 different systems

Robert, The Eco-smarte system is basically a carbon filter. It will remove chlorine, chemicals, VOC's, smells and odors from the water. It is not a water softener. It will not remove hardness from the water.

The copper and titanium alloy material is there to help with scaling and build up in pipes, water heaters, etc. Unfortunately, this "catalyst" based system has many scientific challenges to the validity of it's ability to oxidize, or ionize the water as their website claims.

The Pelican "No Salt" system uses a type of resin called filter sorb. Pelican has actually branded the media as nature soft. It is not certified as a water softener. Pelican claims on its website that it is a "salt free" softener.

For water to be soft, minerals like calcium, magnesium, and lime must be removed from the water. This can only be achieved by using an ion exchange process, using NaCl or KaCl. There is plenty of information and scientific testing that has been done on all "salt free" water systems, including the WQA recent consumer alert statement drawn from test results and conclusions. I would be very cautious of any and all claims made comparing these systems to traditional salt based water softeners.

Clear Water Concepts has been installing water treatment systems also known as water conditioning systems including Reverse Osmosis and Water Softeners in Phoenix Arizona since 1998. We focus entirely on water conditioning systems. That is all we do day in and day out.
