Commercial Water Softener
Best For Heavy Water Usage

A commercial water softener is used in a wide variety of businesses, schools and retail stores to provide soft water for their customers, students and employees.

A few examples of commercial establishments that utilize water softeners are apartment and condominium communities, hospitals, laundries, office buildings, food processing plants, cafes, restaurants, bars, manufacturing plants, car washes, and farms.

Commercial and industrial water softeners use an ion exchange process to remove harsh manganese, calcium, iron and magnesium ions from your water supply.

One benefit of using a commercial water softner is that you’ll use less detergent, and reduce hard water build-up which will save your equipment from unnecessary wear.

The main differences between a residential water softener and a commercial model are the exchange capacity, which is the quantity of water delivered between regenerations, and maximum flow rate.

The exchange capacity is based on the amount of ion exchange resin in the softener and upon the quantity of salt required for resin regeneration. Maximum flow rate is rated in GPM, or gallons per minute and is the maximum quantity of water required at any peak usage period.

How To Choose The Right Type

For businesses such as restaurants, apartment buildings, farms, and car washes that demand a continuous soft water flow without any down time, a twin alternating model of water softeners is the best choice. This model is perfect for those businesses (and sometimes homes) with heavy water usage.

The alternating tanks provide an uninterrupted flow of soft water at all times. One tank softens and filters the water and the other is on standby until the first tank reaches its softening capacity and then the system switches to the second tank automatically. The first tank then recharges and the cycle is repeated when the second tank reaches its capacity.

For commercial applications, there are also single tank, multi-tank parallel, and triple alternating systems available with a wide variety of timer and water meter controllers.

Prices for commercial water softeners can begin around $770 and can go as high as $8,300 and up, depending on the size of water softener needed for your establishment.

Recommended Commercial Water Softeners

The Fleck 2850/1700 1 1/2" Auto Metered System has a fully adjustable 5-cycle control that delivers controlled up flow, backwash, down flow brining, timed brine fill, slow, rapid rinse, and down flow service.

It features a solid lead-free brass valve body for superior durability and strength. This model is ideal for smaller commercial and industrial applications with a backwash capacity for tanks up to 30” in diameter and a continuous flow rate of 51 GPM.

Crystal Quest Commercial and Industrial Water Softener Series are designed to operate at a very high capacity which makes them ideal for most commercial and industrial applications.

These models remove high levels of dissolved solids like calcium and magnesium that create hard water conditions.

Standard features of these models include Heavy-duty Standard® tanks Poly Glass mineral tank, metered Fleck® controls, a self-adjusting backwash controller, a control valve that is all brass and motor driven with fully adjustable regeneration cycles, and a flow controller to limit backwash flow.

The flow rate of the models in this particular series ranges from 15 to 220 GPM, making them a great choice for both smaller and larger businesses.
